Research collaboration: Application of machine learning and AI methods to mining geomechanics.
Professor Sari’s expertise is in Machine Learning and AI techniques, and analysis of large data sets. Our collaboration is application of these methods to various mining geomechanics problems. We have analyzed large seismic data sets from a sublevel open stoping mine in Ontario, with the objective of anticipating the timing of future large seismic events. Currently, we are working on analysis of various data types related to pillar collapses in Codelco’s Chuquicamata underground cave mine in northern Chile. We are co-supervising graduate student Ricardo Quevedo, who is working on this project as part of his Masters program.
